Are Shepskys Good Guard Dogs?

They have a fearless heart and are also alert and brave. These are working dogs, and have a good ability to guard their families.  The Gerberian Shepsky has an extremely gentle and calm temperament but is most feared because of its daunting muscular build.

Shepskys as Watch Dogs?

Most designer dogs aren’t used as working dogs. However, because the Gerberian Shepsky is descended from two hardworking breeds, these pups are often used for police work and search and rescue missions. With their high energy levels, sensitive noses, and alert personalities, Gerberian Shepskies are perfect guard dogs and working companions.

Are Shepskys Aggressive?

Four breeds that are considered the most aggressive are the American pit bull terrier. The bullmastiff, the Rottweiler, and the German shepherd. Yes, half of the Gerberian shepsky can show aggressive tendencies, due to their guarding and protective nature for their family.

Shepskys Background

He is tremendously alert, loyal and protective of his loved ones due to his working dog background. Gerberian Shepskys are ideal for guard duties and make great police and service dogs. However, as the dog breed is protective of his pack, you can expect him to bark whenever he sees an intruder or a stranger.

Family and Bonding

The Gerberian Shepsky loves action, they thrive on being busy. A bored dog will start to have behavioral problems such as incessant barking when you are not there (driving your neighbors mad) or they will chew anything they can get their teeth into. These are ideal dogs to take for a run, or when you bike they can lope alongside. They enjoy play that includes chasing a ball, tug of war, or any training if it is interesting. If the activity is boring your dog will lose interest and become a handful. Because of their activity level and tendency to bark they are not suited for apartment living.

Friendly

Gerberian Shepsky puppies will inherit a mix of character and personality traits from both parents. So, it’s really a question of potluck when you choose your puppy because no one can predict how your pup will turn out. In general, huskies are friendly, gentle, alert, and loyal. German shepherds are calm, clever, and brave. So, whatever personality traits your puppy inherits, you should finish up with a loyal, personable family pet.

Shepsky Nature

They’re also smart. German Shepherds, in particular, are some of the most intelligent dogs around. That’s why you see them working alongside police officers and military personnel. When a Shepsky is born, that intelligence comes with it. Throw in the cunning nature and independent attitude of a Siberian Husky and you have the perfect recipe for a smart companion.

Intelligence

My son brought this 4wk old German Shep/ husky mix home from school. She was beautiful black and tan. By the time she was 5wks old she was completely potty trained. She was smart, loyal, very energetic. She was i believe the absolute best dog I have ever owned. She was the size of a husky but looked like a shepherd. She had a litter of 7 pups with a Russian wolf hound. Three of her pups were red and white husky with blue eyes and the other 4 looked like her black and tan. That dog, her name was sox, was so easy to train. All I had to do was show her once or twice and she was trained. She was a puller on the leash. but if I took her off the leash she would stay right by me. She was quite the little hunter and stalker. She wasn’t real fond of other dogs. But she loved horses , cats, cows, and our pet rat that use to crawl all over her. I truly believe I got the best of both breeds in Sox. She was 13 1/2yrs old when I had to have her put down. It was hard to tell she was even sick because sox only ate when she was hungry. her entire life she would eat and two or three days would go by and she would eat again that was her eating habit. She didn’t drink alot of water either. She had a fast growing cancer in her breast. But health wise for 13 yrs the only shot she ever had was her rabies shot. She traveled in a car from the east coast to the west coast and all the states in between. All the vets she’s been to around the country would tell me how healthy looking she was. when i took her to the vet 6mons. before she passed and he asked me how old she was I said 13 and he told me she didn’t look a day over 7 or 8. He ask me when the last time I brushed her teeth was I said never she’s a dog. I use to give her 2 big ham bones a year very rarely was she given treats and I know i am gonna get hell for this but she loved her dark chocolate. in her eyes steak took a back seat to chocolate. She lived a long healthy productive fulfilled life. I’ve owned a lot of dogs but that one was without a doubt the most intelligent, protective and loyal best friend I could have ever asked for. I would definitely look for another German shep/ Husky mix.

Physical Traits

Gerberian Shepskys are affectionate towards children are likely to become attached to them. Like other dogs, it is best you begin socialization with kids when they are a puppy. Such dogs usually grow up to become great companions and are usually patient with children. Do not leave your pet unattended with small children as their large size and strength presets a threat of knocking over.
